Traditional PR vs. AI-Assisted Digital PR: An Infographic Based on My Workflow

Over the past few years, my Digital PR workflow has changed dramatically.

When I started, almost every task was manual. Topic research, finding journalists, developing story angles, writing pitches, tracking coverage, and reporting all required hours of repetitive work. While those tasks were necessary, they often left less time for what actually drives successful Digital PR: building relationships, crafting compelling stories, and thinking strategically.

Today, AI has become an integral part of my workflow. It doesn’t replace my expertise or make decisions for me, but it significantly reduces the time spent on repetitive and research-intensive tasks. The time I save is now invested in creating better campaigns, personalizing outreach, and strengthening relationships with journalists.

To illustrate this shift, I created the infographic comparing my traditional workflow with my current AI-assisted Digital PR workflow.

The timings shown in this infographic are based entirely on my own Digital PR experience and should be viewed as rough estimates rather than fixed benchmarks. Every campaign is different. A large data-driven campaign naturally takes more time than a simple expert roundup, and the complexity of the project will always influence the effort required.

What I have consistently observed, however, is that the benefits of AI scale with the size of the campaign. As the workload increases, the time saved through AI-assisted research, journalist discovery, monitoring, reporting, and workflow automation increases proportionally. The more repetitive tasks involved, the greater the return on incorporating AI into the process.

One thing hasn’t changed, and probably never will.

Relationships cannot be automated.

Journalists still value authenticity. Stories still require human judgment. Strategy, creativity, negotiation, and trust remain the foundation of successful Digital PR. AI simply gives us more time to focus on those areas instead of repetitive manual work.

For me, AI hasn’t replaced Digital PR; it has made me a better Digital PR professional.

It’s time we stop thinking of AI as a replacement and start treating it as a productivity partner. Integrating AI into your Digital PR workflow isn’t about doing less work; it’s about spending your time where it creates the greatest impact. The future of Digital PR belongs to professionals who combine human expertise with AI-powered efficiency.
